Ceremony Details

The ceremony will take place in the late afternoon of Sunday, September 4th, 2005 on the outdoor patio at Lansdowne Resort in Virginia.  In case of rain, the ceremony will be held in the ballroom.  The Reverend Carol Morrison will perform the ceremony.  Reverend Morrison is a Presbyterian who specializes in weddings.  We’ve enjoyed getting to know her and preparing for the wedding.

Immediately following the ceremony, there will be a cocktail hour on the adjacent terrace.  After cocktails, please join us for dinner and dancing in the ballroom.

Accommodations

The entire weekend will take place at Lansdowne Resort, in Lansdowne, Virginia (www.lansdowneresort.com, 877-509-8400).  A block of rooms is reserved at the resort for our guests, and we have been guaranteed the rate of $179 a night per room if you ask for the Barker/Canary Wedding block.  As of April 2005, you can get better rate by simply booking a room directly with the hotel, so we recommend checking online or calling to check before making a decision.

In addition, there are a handful of hotels in Leesburg, about 6 miles up the road, and dozens more near Dulles Airport, about 10 miles away.

Weekend Plans

There’s so much more to this wedding than just these few hours.  We are very excited to share this day with you, and we realize that there aren’t enough hours in the day to catch up and celebrate with everyone.  So we’ve planned an entire weekend of events, and hope that you will join us for more than a few hours.  We will likely be arriving at the hotel Saturday morning, and we’ll be there till Monday evening.  Here’s a brief look at the weekend:

Saturday, September 3rd:

Morning and afternoon: Golf tournament, pool lounging

Evening: Rehearsal and Rehearsal Dinner

After Dinner: We will be in the pub at Lansdowne relaxing and catching up with friends.

Sunday, September 4th:

          Morning: Family Brunch

          5:30 pm (Current plan): Ceremony

          6:00 pm: Cocktails

          7:00 pm11:00pm: Reception

Post-Reception:  If you’re still going, the pub will be open another few hours.  Maybe later we can sneak out to the pool….

Monday, September 5th:

Morning: Informal Brunch.  We plan to be downstairs in the restaurant for a few hours in the morning to see people before we all leave.

We’ve purposefully left some free time in this schedule for those coming to visit. If you’d like to find something more to do, the resort has a ton of activities to fill your time, please check their website for details.

Local Weather

Since August will be over, we’re hoping to avoid the horrendous DC summer weather, but still have it be nice enough to enjoy the pools and golf courses.  As long as the weather is good, you should plan for warm temperatures for the ceremony and cocktail hour and an air-conditioned ballroom for the reception.

Gift Registries

This is one of the next items on our list.  If you really want ideas, check back here, we promise we’ll get something together soon.  But we’d also really respect our friends’ taste in things, so we’d love something unique that you think we’d enjoy.
